Rogue Regional Medical Center was built by and for our community. For generations, Rogue Regional was a community treasure we took pride in. The care doctors, nurses and staff provided there saved countless lives and convinced generations of families to make their homes in the Rogue Valley. But over the last few years, something has changed. Asante’s executives have cut care, closed facilities and fired essential workers; putting corporate greed ahead of our community’s needs.
Frontline healthcare professionals at Rogue Regional Medical Center are working to restore our hospital to a place we can all be proud of. We are fighting to protect local healthcare, hold out-of-state CEOs accountable to our community, and make sure patients remain at the heart of healthcare.
Our Community Needs:
- High-Quality Healthcare Close to Home
Southern Oregon families deserve access to first-rate healthcare in our community. We shouldn’t have to travel elsewhere, wait months for an appointment, or hours in an emergency department.
Asante must invest in our local healthcare system and stop service cuts, hospital closures and mass layoffs which are forcing families, seniors and pregnant moms to wait longer, travel further and pay more for basic healthcare.
- Affordable Healthcare
No one should have to choose between paying their rent or paying off a hospital bill. And receiving lifesaving care shouldn’t come with a lifetime of crippling medical debt. Nonprofit hospitals must live up to their obligations to care for everyone in our community and invest in our community’s health and wellbeing. They must refocus on their mission to heal and serve local patients in need and work to keep healthcare affordable for everyone who needs it.
- Fair Pay and Benefits
Oregonians need care from frontline healthcare professionals who are educated, experienced and who know our community’s resources and needs. Fair pay and competitive benefits allow Southern Oregon to recruit and retain the skilled nurses, technicians and healthcare professionals we all rely on. These professionals keep care safe and help us all receive the care we deserve.
- Safe Staffing
Safe staffing saves lives. It ensures you and your loved ones get life-saving care when you need it. Oregon’s hospital staffing law protects patients by setting basic safety standards and empowers hospitals and workers to improve them to meet every community’s unique needs.
Unfortunately, Asante is regularly breaking Oregon’s staffing law and forcing patients into situations where there are too few people to provide safe, competent, therapeutic, and effective care. As healthcare professionals, we are fighting to make sure Asante follows Oregon’s safe staffing law so patients and their families are safe.
- A Voice for Patients and Frontline Caregivers
Healthcare professionals are your most important advocates. We stand up and speak out to make sure you and your loved ones get the care and attention you need, both inside and outside the hospital. No healthcare worker should fear for their job when they exercise their right to speak up about patient safety or oppose dangerous cuts to services. Healthcare providers must be able to speak freely to uphold safe patient care and exercise independent clinical judgment. We use our voices to raise concerns about unsafe conditions, challenge harmful healthcare cuts, hold decision-makers accountable, and help shape the future of our hospitals and health systems.
- Accountability
Asante executives have chosen to close local facilities, cut services and fire thousands of our friends and neighbors in Southern Oregon; jeopardizing healthcare for current and future patients. These healthcare decisions seem to be made without input from or explanation to patients, providers or community members.
Our community deserves a say in our healthcare. We deserve answers for the damage Asante’s out-of-state CEOs have already done and transparency in local healthcare decisions going forward. We’re fighting for a healthcare system that puts patients before profits and where nonprofit CEOs act with transparency, accountability, and a commitment to put our community’s healthcare needs ahead of their own interests.
Together, frontline healthcare professionals at Rogue Regional are standing together to protect your local hospital and preserve your right to local, high-quality healthcare. As nurses, techs, patients, families, and community members, we share a stake in Rogue Regional’s future and are working to ensure it remains a trusted source of care for generations to come.
